StaxofSax Saxophone Workshops are back in business.

Our next event is booked for May the 28th at Carisbrooke C of E primary school, in Carisbrooke on the Isle of Wight.

We are taking a maximum of 30 players so that we have enough tutors to keep people on the right track. We are concentrating on ensemble playing, with groups of various sizes.

All the details are on the flyer below, but please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

This will be our 20th workshop, but our first here on the Island.

I do hope that you can join us for a good days music making.

Please feel free to share the details to anyone that you know.

Many thanks

Dave

Yesterday was Adolphe Sax’s birthday and as such was designated international Saxophone day.

Locally, Wight Saxes (local sax choir) and Wight Diamonds Marching Band hosted a Play day for over 30 sax players.

I was asked to lead the warm ups and the large ensemble pieces, but also my Sax quartet had their first outing. We started with Mr Sandman and then Sea Shanty.

There where solo performances from a few players and different groups showed of their talents too.

We where very lucky to have Gary Plumley join us to lead a jazz session. Gary plays with Sax Appeal and has recorded with multiple big names, such as the Average White Band.

Overall a really fun afternoon was had by one and all. Loads of pictures and videos taken (not by me) so hopefully I can add some of those when they come through.

The plan is to host another event next year, so watch this space for details.

many thanks to Andy and Lynn for organising.
