It was only yesterday that I announced the first StaxofSax saxophone workshop for the Isle of Wight, and already more than 25% of the places are booked.

If you know of anyone that either lives on the Island or may want to visit the Island and join us, please pass the message on.  That would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Dave

I am very pleased to announce that the first StaxofSax workshop for 2020 is happening on Saturday February the 29th in Newport on the Isle of Wight.

Not sure if this counts as an overseas event, but it is a beautiful place and we love living here.

The workshop will cover a Q and A session about anything saxophone related,  Large ensemble playing, and help and advice on taking your playing to the next level plus other items.

The details are on the flyer below, and I would really appreciate it if you could share this post with as many Saxophonists as possible please.

More details will follow, so watch this space, and hope to see some of your in February

Many thanksFeb29Flyer

I have been asked to run a saxophone workshop with a local ensemble called Wight Sax.  They are a community group who rehearse each week in Newport.  They have invited some members of the Trident Concert band to join us, and I’m really looking forward to meeting all theses saxophonists in one place.

We will cover sight reading and warm ups plus looking at one of their existing pieces plus other things, (but I don’t want to give it all away before the event,) during the evening, with the aim of offering advice and encouragement.

This is a closed event, but if it goes well, it will be something that I explore further, open to any player who cares to attend.

This should be a fun evening. I’ll let you know how it goes.

I will be busy this coming Sunday, exhibiting at the Wight Bridal Wedding Show in Newport. This is a big wedding show, with loads of different suppliers available for you to talk too about your special day.  I will be in the small gym and I will be playing through out the day, so come and listen and talk to me about the music for your wedding.

The weather forecast is supposed to be good, so there’s  an excellent excuse to take a trip to Newport and come and see what is possible for your wedding.

There will be a 10% discount for those couples that book their music on the day.

I look forward to have a chat with you on Sunday.

Dave.

As you know, if you have read my previous post, before Christmas, I bought myself a Ukulele and signed up to a night school course for beginners at the Quay Arts Centre in Newport.

I started to explore YouTube for lessons before going to the class, and as with most subjects on YouTube, there are some great videos and some not so great.  They got me started with holding it, hand position and a couple of chords.

I have been to the night school for the last 2 weeks, and there are about 10 of us in the class.  This is a good number, because if there where many more, the tutor would struggle to get round us all.

We have started off with learning to play ‘Yellow Bird’ and ‘Hush Little Baby’ and this week we have progressed to ‘Paint it Black’ and ‘Yellow Submarine’.

Its great fun and I have met some lovely people that are in the same boat as me.

I would definitely recommend either getting individual or group lessons like these, rather than going it alone.

This Sunday, I will be exhibiting at the Wight Bridal Wedding Show at the Medina Leisure Centre in Newport, on the Isle of Wight.

With over 75 stands, there should be something for everyone to help with their wedding plans.

Come along and have a look, and listen, and tick a few more items off of your wedding plans.

Hope to see you there
