Hi Folks
Its time for the Easter StaxofSax Saxophone workshop 2017.

Please see the leaflet for details of the date and venue and contact details.

We will also be continuing with the format that we had at Christmas, with Large ensemble in the morning and Jazz OR small ensemble in the afternoon. Its your choice as to which you do after lunch, just let me know your preference.

Could I ask that everyone forwards this post on so that we can get in touch with as many Saxophonists as possible please.

We have 30 spaces to fill and would love to see a full hall.

Many thanks

Dave and Chris

Hi Folks

Things have been a little bit quiet recently as far as the workshops have been concerned.  But we are now back and ready to Rock n Roll with our Annual Christmas workshop, Which is normally our best attended one anyway.

We have got all the normal activities planned for you, Large ensemble and Jazz improvisation sessions, but we have listened to the feedback we have had and are pleased to announce that for those that dont fancy improvising, there will be a second ensemble session in the afternoon, along side the Jazz in the main hall.  Because of this change, we are opening the doors to 30 players this year instead of the normal 20.

We have kept the cost at £30 per person again for another year.

The day is open to anyone aged 11 or over who has been playing for at least a year.

All the details of dates and times and venue are on the attached flyer.  We would ask that you spread this article far and wide so that we can generate loads of interest.

Contact details are email: staxofsax@gmail.com or via this post.

We are looking forward to seeing you there

Dave

Okay that’s maybe a bit of an overstatement,  but I am being interviewed on BBC radio Leicester this Wednesday morning at 10.40am. They have asked me to come along and talk about my music life.

So, if you listen in, you may even get a mention if we have done anything musical together.

Saturday 30th of July  was my 3rd time of playing at the ‘Friends of the Leicester Samaritans’ (SAMS) Beer Festival in Leicester.  This is definitely one of my favourite gigs of the year and to keep being asked back each year is a real buzz.

They have a long weekend of live music, great local food and stacks of Real Ales, Ciders and Wine and as if thats not enough Pimms aplenty.

My session was a 2 hour set in the small hall playing some jazz, pop, blues and rock tunes, and seemd to be well received by everyone with loads of singing along to some of the tunes.

The aim is to raise as much as possible to keep this truly vital service running.  This I believe has been a record year with over £4000 towards the funds.

I will keep you updated as to next years events as I have been asked back again.

Thanks to Lance and his team for making me feel welcome and for the beer tokens!! See you next year.

This is the Donington Manor Hotel, Castle Donington, where Lisa and Stuart held their Drinks Reception, Photos and Wedding breakfast.

One of the things I love about playing at Weddings is when the Bride and Groom ask me to play a tune that I have never heard of, but when you listen and learn it, it becomes an instant favourite.

This was the case with Lisa and Stuart.  The song is ‘The Last Night of the World’ and comes from the ‘Miss Saigon’ Musical.  Its a beautiful melody that sits very nicely on the Soprano Saxophone.  Lisa and Stuart both said that they were so glad that they asked me to play it as it ‘Made their day’ and it was worth my fee just for that one song.

Well Lisa and Stuart, I would like to wish you all the best for the future and thank you for asking me to be part of your big day and also a big thank you for introducing me to your favourite song.

The Hotel is very nice and the staff are helpful and friendly too.

The opening of the new wine bar mentioned in the last post has been delayed for a couple of weeks, but on Monday evening they hosted a private party at which I provided the entertainment. This was in the former of background music and me playing 3 sets. The venue is great, nice and cosy with a great ambience. I am looking forward to playing on a regular basis there.

This afternoon was my regular session at Sibbertoft Manor residential home, entertaining the residents. This  is a great gig for me as I have made some good friends there and enjoy playing for everyone.
