I posted at the beginning of the week about bringing back the StaxofSax Saxophone workshops. The post gave details of the first event on the 28th of May 2023 here on the Isle of Wight.

So this post is an update for those that have already booked, and a heads up for those that are still thinking about it or didn’t see the initial post.

We are limiting the day to 30 players so that we can provide proper support for everyone. We have booked 22 players in already.

We will work on warm up techniques, ensemble playing (various sizes) and lots of there things that will benefit your playing including a Q and A session.

The music will be sent out in advance so that you can have a look at it before the big day, and we will only have a 30 minute lunch break so that we can make the most of playing time. You will need to bring your own lunch, but tea and coffee will be provided.

The venue has on site free parking, enough for everyone and is only a few minutes away from Newport Town centre.

I have attached the flyer again as this has more details for you all, and I would be grateful if you could share it amongst your sax playing buddies.

Many thanks for reading this and I hope to see you there.

Best wishes

Dave

I have had confirmation today of my booking to exhibit at this lovely wedding fair.

I played here last January and its an excellent event. Loads of different suppliers to give you ideas and the chance to see them in action before you commit.

So, keep the date free and I hope to see you there, if you have a particular song you would like to hear, let me know and I will do my best to play it for you.

Best wishes

Dave

StaxofSax Saxophone Workshops are back in business.

Our next event is booked for May the 28th at Carisbrooke C of E primary school, in Carisbrooke on the Isle of Wight.

We are taking a maximum of 30 players so that we have enough tutors to keep people on the right track. We are concentrating on ensemble playing, with groups of various sizes.

All the details are on the flyer below, but please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

This will be our 20th workshop, but our first here on the Island.

I do hope that you can join us for a good days music making.

Please feel free to share the details to anyone that you know.

Many thanks

Dave

I have just been asked to exhibit at the East Afton Farm House open day on Sunday the 26th of February 2023.

The event starts at 11 am until 4 pm and is ideal for not only people looking at East Afton as a venue, but also for couples wanting ideas from different suppliers.

There is a performers corner to listen to the different musicians that have been invited, and I start at 11.15am with other acts throughout the day. There will also be other types of wedding professionals exhibiting too.

This is a beautiful venue and really worth a visit for prospective couples.

Why not pop along and have a look for yourself.

Best wishes

Dave

On my YouTube Channel I have some tutorial videos on subjects such as low note finger patterns and Upper register key work. I am looking to expand this type of video as students find them useful to refer to in between lessons,.

I am going to aim them at different levels so that I include as many students as possible.

My question is, what topics do you think would be useful for students from beginners to advanced?

Let me know in the comments below and I will make a list of subjects to get working on.

Thanks

Dave

Some of you will know that I am Saxophone teacher as well as a player, and this post is made with that hat on rather than the entertainers one.

I teach both Face to Face and Via Zoom/Facebook messenger, I also do a lot of work with a facebook group called https://www.facebook.com/groups/learnsax, A very friendly and helpful group of players that help each other with support and advice. Pop over and have a look.

On my YouTube Channel. I have some videos that are related to learning, including help with High and Low note finger patterns and dexterity exercises. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsZcJA_xDQi_rhYLjrHVSbw

Have a look and let me know if there are any other topics that you think might be useful to students. A subscribe and share would be very helpful too.

If I can help you or someone you know that wishes to learn, then please get in touch either by leaving a comment here or via dave.saxteach@yahoo.co.uk for a chat.

Have a great Christmas everyone and aHappy New Year.

Remember- a Saxophone is for Life, not just Christmas!

The last half of the year has been good as we have started to get back to making music in public again. With concerts on the bandstand, playing in residential homes and about a dozen weddings and its been lovely seeing people enjoying the music too.

Next year is getting busier with 15 weddings booked, 3 wedding fairs, Swing band gigs and another season on the bandstand, plus hopefully I am planning on running a saxophone workshop here on the Island.

So with a final visit to Solent Grange Residential home tomorrow, for their Christmas party, with will loads of singing and dancing and plenty of fun with the ladies and gents there. Its time to look forward to Christmas and the New Year. So I hope you all have a lovely time and look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.

Best wishes

On Friday, Alan and I played at the Ryde Methodist Church Carol Service, and this excerpt is from the warm up before the service started. Yes I did wear my coat all evening, along with all of the congregation. It was rather chilly to say the least.

Alan and I will be working together after Christmas in preparation for some hotel work in the New Year.

We hope you enjoy this song, please lets us know in the comments below.

Best wishes

The final wedding of the year was at East Afton Farm House Yesterday. Chloe and Matt tied the knot on a beautiful crisp sunny day, with all of their friends and family there to help them celebrate.

East Afton has opened up another barn as part of their package, and this is a stunning venue for the reception.

They even had a 12 ft wooden reindeer in there.

I played during the drinks reception and we had a mixture of pop, jazz and Christmas tunes, before everyone went outside for the big group photographs and then sat down to dinner.

I would like to say thank you to Chloe and Matt for asking me to be part of their big day, and wish them all the best for their future together.
