On Friday, Alan and I played at the Ryde Methodist Church Carol Service, and this excerpt is from the warm up before the service started. Yes I did wear my coat all evening, along with all of the congregation. It was rather chilly to say the least.

Alan and I will be working together after Christmas in preparation for some hotel work in the New Year.

We hope you enjoy this song, please lets us know in the comments below.

Best wishes

Dave

Count Basie is probably my favourite big band leader and yesterday, whilst wearing one of my other hats I had the pleasure of conducting the Sandown and Shanklin Military band in an arrangement of Count Basie tunes called Count Basie Salute, arranged by John Higgins.

It comprises ‘April in Paris, ‘Lil Darling’ and Jumping at the Woodside.

This was our last Christmas concert for this year at All Saints Church in Freshwater and the video is posted on the bands facebook page, with lots of others from this and previous concerts.

The Videographer is our very own Les Gladdis who has kindly given me permission to share this with you.

Hope you enjoy it.

Gift Screen grab 3

Occasionally I get asked about lessons as a present for someone’s Birthday or Christmas, so we have been providing gift vouchers for those requests over the last 10 years.

I just wanted to share with you, the new updated voucher that we have produced.  Pretty smart, even though I say so myself.

Vouchers can be bought for a certain amount of lessons and the card tells the recipient how many that is, not the amount of money that you have spent.

Different designs can be printed.

Lessons can be 30 or 60 minutes long.  The Student then contacts me to arrange a suitable time for those lessons.

Lessons can be Face to Face or via Skype or Facetime, whichever suits the student.

The cards have space for you to personalise them, and are posted to you for giving.

If you have someone who has expressed an interest in learning, then this is a great way to surprise them.

My number is 07736 471 861 or dave.saxteach@yahoo.co.uk

I look forward to hearing from you

This year workshop is taking place on December the 29th at the Salvation Army Hall in South Wigston.

It is open to anyone with 12 months or more playing experience and covers ensemble work, both large and small, plus jazz improvisation if you fancy it.

The main details are on the attached flyer,  and I would be very grateful if you could share this with any sax teachers and players that you may know.

Its a great fun day after the Christmas festivities and a chance to get out of the house and blow off some steam.

I hope that some of you can join us, and if you have any questions drop me an email or ring.  dave.saxteach@yahoo.co.uk or Tel: 07736 471861

Many thanks

Hi Folks

Things have been a little bit quiet recently as far as the workshops have been concerned.  But we are now back and ready to Rock n Roll with our Annual Christmas workshop, Which is normally our best attended one anyway.

We have got all the normal activities planned for you, Large ensemble and Jazz improvisation sessions, but we have listened to the feedback we have had and are pleased to announce that for those that dont fancy improvising, there will be a second ensemble session in the afternoon, along side the Jazz in the main hall.  Because of this change, we are opening the doors to 30 players this year instead of the normal 20.

We have kept the cost at £30 per person again for another year.

The day is open to anyone aged 11 or over who has been playing for at least a year.

All the details of dates and times and venue are on the attached flyer.  We would ask that you spread this article far and wide so that we can generate loads of interest.

Contact details are email: staxofsax@gmail.com or via this post.

We are looking forward to seeing you there

Dave

Well, for my dinner If I am going to be accurate.  On Wednesday I played for a senior citizens group belonging to my uncle’s church.

The dinner was held at the Leicester Stage Motel in Wigston and this is a very nice venue for functions and weddings plus the food was very good too.

We had a few classics like, fly me to the moon and  Christmas songs such as Santa baby  with some traditional Carols, and plenty of singing.

Both Carole and I had a great time and met some lovely people, including one of Caroles tutors from her time at college aged 17.

Thanks to Aunty Judy and Uncle  for inviting and feeding us, we had a great time.
