This Year/Next Year

The last half of the year has been good as we have started to get back to making music in public again. With concerts on the bandstand, playing in residential homes and about a dozen weddings and its been lovely seeing people enjoying the music too.

Next year is getting busier with 15 weddings booked, 3 wedding fairs, Swing band gigs and another season on the bandstand, plus hopefully I am planning on running a saxophone workshop here on the Island.

So with a final visit to Solent Grange Residential home tomorrow, for their Christmas party, with will loads of singing and dancing and plenty of fun with the ladies and gents there. Its time to look forward to Christmas and the New Year. So I hope you all have a lovely time and look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.

Best wishes

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

On Friday, Alan and I played at the Ryde Methodist Church Carol Service, and this excerpt is from the warm up before the service started. Yes I did wear my coat all evening, along with all of the congregation. It was rather chilly to say the least.

Alan and I will be working together after Christmas in preparation for some hotel work in the New Year.

We hope you enjoy this song, please lets us know in the comments below.

Best wishes

Last Wedding of the Year

The final wedding of the year was at East Afton Farm House Yesterday. Chloe and Matt tied the knot on a beautiful crisp sunny day, with all of their friends and family there to help them celebrate.

East Afton has opened up another barn as part of their package, and this is a stunning venue for the reception.

They even had a 12 ft wooden reindeer in there.

I played during the drinks reception and we had a mixture of pop, jazz and Christmas tunes, before everyone went outside for the big group photographs and then sat down to dinner.

I would like to say thank you to Chloe and Matt for asking me to be part of their big day, and wish them all the best for their future together.

18 Carols in 2 minutes!

Todays offering comes from Santas little helpers, Andy and Me.

We rehearsed this duet this morning and had good fun recording it for you. Let us know what you think in the comments please.

Happy Christmas from us.

Last Christmas!

I have just been sorting through some of last years photographs , and came across these two.

The first one appeared in a local tourist magazine showing activities that had been happening in St Thomas’ square in Newport and shows me busking. A couple of weeks later they used an edited snap of my hand from the first picture.
who knows which part of me may pop up in future articles 😂

Count Basie Salute

Count Basie is probably my favourite big band leader and yesterday, whilst wearing one of my other hats I had the pleasure of conducting the Sandown and Shanklin Military band in an arrangement of Count Basie tunes called Count Basie Salute, arranged by John Higgins.

It comprises ‘April in Paris, ‘Lil Darling’ and Jumping at the Woodside.

This was our last Christmas concert for this year at All Saints Church in Freshwater and the video is posted on the bands facebook page, with lots of others from this and previous concerts.

The Videographer is our very own Les Gladdis who has kindly given me permission to share this with you.

Hope you enjoy it.

O Christmas Tree Duet.

Working with Clare this morning, and we played some Christmas duets. We recorded this one and thought that it came out well and we decided to post it for others to enjoy too.

This was only the second go through for Clare and she did a great job.

Have a Happy Christmas everyone.

Solent Swing

For about the last 8 months I have been playing with a new swing band on the Island, called Solent Swing.

We are a 10 piece plus singer, big band (well not too big) playing music from across the last 80 years. So all of your standard swing band music, plus some arrangements of tunes that have become classics from the 80/90s and onwards.

We are playing this coming Friday for the Local Probus Club (retired Business people) at their Christmas meeting in Yarmouth (IoW) andwe are very much looking forward to getting out there and setting there event off with a swing.

We will hopefully have the video cameras set up and then I can share a clip or two with you all.

So, if you are looking for a band like this for an event or wedding, just get in touch and we can have a chat about what we can do for you.

Many thanks

New Venture!

I have been doing some rehearsals with a very well known local pianist Alan Nicholls, with the aim of playing as a duo at weddings, hotels, restuarants etc.

Alan has played with a lot of the bands here and on the mailand and until his recent retirement he was the musical director at Warners of Bembridge.

We are working on some jazz standards and mellow pop tunes as well as Christmas music too and aim to give a wide choice to our clients.

We will be getting some videos made so that you can see what we are up to as soon as possible.

We are doing our first outing at a church in Ryde for their Carol Concert and we will be playing before and after to keep people entertained.

So if your are planning a Wedding, Party, drinks reception we could be exactly what you are looking for. So get in touch and we can discuss your plans.

Look what I found!

Just spending some time on YouTube and came across this video. Gulabi Aankhein is a Hindi song from 1970. This video was used as a promotional video for The Folk Foundasian Sax trio. We recorded this with one video camera and 2 mobile phone cameras.

I really enjoyed playing alongside Hiten and Trush, we had some great gigs travelling all over to perform at weddings and parties in some stunning venues. Thanks guys.

Happy Times
