Well tomorrow Uppingham Community College School band and Sax group are playing at Burghley House for the Queens garden party. We are the only state school represented. The sax group is planning to play ‘Teddy Bears Picnic’. Lets hope the weather stays fine. I wonder what Prince Philip will think to the choice of tunes? I will let you know how we get on.

We had a great day, the weather was just right and didn’t rain at all. The only problem we had was that due to some of the band members taking GCSE exams that morning we couldn’t get there until 11 am. However with busy traffic we arrived with about 35 minutes to get set up and ready to play. This wasn’t helped by the Marshall’s not letting us take the bus near the band stand. So a large crocodile of band members and their equipment stretched across the park. We made it with about 5 minutes to spare.
The band played tunes like Farewell to Ashakan, Lullaby for Lisa and Music from the Royal fireworks. When the Queen actually arrived we where the only band playing, and Adam was in the middle of a lovely trumpet solo in Georgia on my Mind.
Carole (my wife) became band official photographer, with a massive camera that she had never used before. Hopefully we will have some of the pictures to show you soon.
The band should be very proud of themselves, because they did everyone proud. Well done guys.
The rest of the day was very good too with arial displays from the Red Arrows, Blades and a hurricane and Spitfire (the last ones are my favourites)
Their was a beatbox group which where excellent and other bands included the RAF Regiment Band, The Band of the Royal Yeomanry, Stamford Endowed Schools Big Band and Lincolnshire County youth Brass Band.
So a fun day was had by one and all.
