That was a day and a bit. With 17 players of all ages and abilities joining us for a playday of good music and good fun.
We had people who travelled from Lincolnshire and Macclesfield in Cheshire to join in. It was great to see the 3 new players and the best bit is that they all want to come and have another go.
Dave Topping from the Yahoo saxophone group came along and gave us a lovely review of the day, thanks Dave, it was good to meet you.
Drew Stansall ran an inspirational session that had a large group up on their feet having a go at improvising to ‘Green Onions’, spme of these people had never improvised before. I have taken some pics but not of Drews session, sorry but I was to busy listening to what he had to say. Will try harder next time.
Chris worked his magic yet again with a great arrangement for large ensemble of Mamma Mia complete with a rhythm section backing track. This sounded really good.
We also had small group sessions with Peter Gunn, Ave Verum, Return to sender to name but a few, yet again arranged by Chris to fit the ensembles that we had.
The general thought seems to be that we should involve more improvisation sessions and we are planning to involve more artists to come along and run those sessions.
We have booked our next event for Wednesday the 19th October at the same venue in Leicester and booking is open now. If you are interested then please get in touch email staxofsax@gmail.com
I look forward to hearing from you soon and hopefully see some of you at a future StaxofSax playday
Cheers
Dave
