10th of July was the first non school gig that we did. 6 of us make up the StaxofSax ensemble from Deepings School in Lincolnshire.
We were invited to play at the St. Guthlacs church fete. It was a lovely day and the venue was nice becuase it was the vicars back garden. We did four numbers (five with a request to hear Night Train again) Which included Rocking Saxes (good tune whilst not too difficult) Night Train, Bare Neccessities and Mambo No. 5.
There were some nerves present but everyone came up with the goods when asked to do so. Joel had to play his solo in Night train twice but he relaxed into it on the second time and played it even better than the first. We had loads of positive comments from our audience and a choc ice to finish the afternoon off.
We have got 2 school gigs at the end of the year, but I am planning on taking the group out playing in the school corridors over a couple of lunchtimes to entertain the rest of the pupils. Normally the players only play in front of other musical students but this way everyone can hear what they get upto when they give up there lunch break on a Friday.
We are now on school holidays but with two new pieces to perfect for september. We have got Teddy Bears picnic and Rondo which is a lovely slow classical piece and will be a challenge to play well.
If you are reading this guys, well done and have a great summer
Dave
